چکیده

In this paper, we propose to adapt both the modulation scheme and the transmit power in the frequency domain using a heuristic evaluation of the bit error rate (BER) for each subcarrier. The proposed method consists in ordering in terms of fading impact, grouping a certain number of subcarriers and performing local power adaptation in each subcarrier group. The subcarrier grouping is performed in order to equalize the average channel condition of each subcarrier group. Grouping and local power adaptation allow us to take advantage of the channel variations and to reduce the computational complexity of the proposed power distribution scheme, while avoiding the performance degradation due to the suboptimum power adaptation as much as possible. Compared to the conventional power distribution methods, the proposed scheme does not require any iterative process and the power adaptation is directly performed using an analytical formula. Simulations show a gain in terms of BER performance compared to equal power distribution and existing algorithms for power distribution. In addition, due to the subcarrier group specificity, the trade-off between the computational complexity and the performance can be controlled by adjusting the size of the subcarrier groups. Simulation results show significant improvement of BER performance compared to equal power allocation. key words: OFDM, adaptive modulation, Lagrangian method, global BER optimization

Flexible Multi-Group Single-Carrier Modulation: Optimal Subcarrier Grouping and Rate Maximization

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) and singlecarrier frequency domain equalization (SC-FDE) are two commonly adopted modulation schemes for frequency-selective channels. Compared to SC-FDE, OFDM generally achieves higher data rate, but at the cost of higher transmit signal peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) that leads to lower power amplifier efficiency. This paper proposes a new...

A Low-complexity Power and Bit Allocation Algorithm for Multiuser MIMO-OFDM Systems

In this paper, we present a low-complexity bit and power allocation algorithm for multiuser MIMO-OFDM downlink transmission. In order to minimize the total transmit power under the condition that users'QoS requirements are satisfied, a novel resource allocation scheme is proposed to exploit the multiuser diversity gain. The proposed algorithm involves adaptive subcarrier allocation, adaptive mo...

An Efficient Scheme for PAPR Reduction of OFDM based on Selected Mapping without Side Information

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has become a promising method for many wireless communication applications. However, one main drawback of OFDM systems is the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). Selected mapping (SLM) is a well-known technique to decrease the problem of high PAPR in OFDM systems. In this method, transmitter is obliged to send some bits named side informati...

Subcarrier grouping with environmental sensing for MIMO-OFDM systems over correlated double-selective fading channels

With the increase of physical antenna and subcarrier numbers in MIMO-OFDM systems, channel side information feedback amount and signal precoding complexity overburden will consume much more system resource, even become intolerable. To solve this problem, previous works mainly focused on fixed subcarrier grouping size and precoded MIMO signals in the same group with unitary channel state informa...
